Home Office: Protective security schemes for places of worship
In 2023 and 2024, the Home Office is continuing to provide protective security measures to places of worship under two schemes:
- Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme
- Protective Security for Mosques Scheme.
Muslim places of worship and their associated faith community centres will be allocated to the Protective Security for Mosques Scheme. All other faiths, except the Jewish community, will be allocated to the Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme. A separate funding scheme is available to provide security measures for the Jewish community. Aiming to reduce hate crime happening at places of worship so that people can feel safe to attend worship and practise their religion freely, successful applicants will have security measures provided and installed free of charge. Applicants to the Protective Security for Mosques Scheme are also able to apply for security guarding services. The application process for the Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme was open from 21 June 2023 until 5 September 2023. The application process for the Protective Security for Mosques Scheme remains open.
Hoodie Hut: Hoodies for Charity
Each year, during the school summer holidays, Hoodie Hut take some time out to work with and support UK charities. They print free hoodies and t-shirts for their volunteers, which are ideal for use at fundraising and promotional events. Typically printing is a batch of 12 hoodies or 20 t-shirts per charity until they reach their threshold. Currently 168 out of 500 claimed (figure is updated every 72 hours). They only have the school summer holidays to process and print the hoodies for this initiative, so their deadline for applications is the 1st of September 2024.
They fund charities and organisations who aim to aid the research into learning disability and to aid the care and relief of those affected by learning disability. They consider under learning disability the conditions generally referred to as severe learning difficulties, together with autism. Projects can be for children or adults. Please note that they do not give grants for research into or care of those with mental illness, dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, nor ADHD, if they do not also have learning disabilities (intellectual disabilities). Funding is normally considered for capital and revenue costs and for both specific projects and for general running/core costs. Small grants (<£9,000) can be made at any time. Main grants (>£9,000) decided at Trustees’ meetings in March, June, and November. Next deadline 1 December 2024 (March 2025 meeting).
