Comic Relief launches new funding strategy

Comic Relief has announced further details of its new funding strategy will be making new grants supporting this strategy which aims to have a greater impact on those facing poverty and inequality. The charity has outlined key areas of focus: Effects of Poverty programme will fund work that enables people who bear the brunt of poverty to build community-led solutions and overcome the many problems they face, Tackling Injustices programme funds organisations and movements working with the most marginalised communities to reduce the structural barriers that keep people in poverty, and Climate Justice programme will support people living in poverty who are most harmed by climate change. Further details on each programme will be announced.

HelpFilm

This is an open call to small charities wanting to make a film about their organisation and its cause. HelpFilm uses only working professional filmmakers or video producers to create high-end videos and animations and to provide productions and editing services to small and medium sized charities across a broad range of valuable causes. They cover all the expenses involved in the production so there is no cost to the charities they are working with. Register by 16 September 2024.

Tree Council: Branching Out Fund

The Tree Council has funds available to assist schools, community groups and member Tree Warden Networks proposing to undertake well-planned tree planting projects over winter annually, preferably during National Tree Week. Branching Out supports applications ranging in value from £250 to £2,500, with specific criteria for those under £500, and those above £500.

Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council – Specialist Grant for eligible sporting groups

Applications are now open for the Specialist Grant to assist sporting organisations within the borough to hold a recognition event, celebrating the achievements of Armagh GAA in 2024. Events must take place between the 30 August 2024 and the 31 October 2024. The maximum grant will be up to and no more than £600.00. Deadline 15 August 2024 (noon).

Arts Council NI: Musical Instruments for Bands

The Arts Council has designed this programme to increase the quality of music-making in the community by helping bands to replace worn-out instruments and purchase new instruments. Particular priority will be given to applications which can demonstrate: high quality musicianship; a commitment to training and musical education, particularly of young people; and a commitment to repertoire and technique development in relation to the band’s existing repertoire and technical standards. Apply for up to £10,000. Deadline 30 September 2024 (noon).

Arts Council NI: Musical Instruments for Professional and non-Professional Performing Groups

Grants of up to £30,000 are available through this scheme. This strand is open to schools and to professional and non-professional performing groups in any genre of music, including amateur / youth orchestras and ensembles, choirs, community music groups, musical societies and pop and rock ensembles. Primary and post primary schools are also encouraged to apply for funding for non-core curriculum activities. Deadline 30 September 2024 (noon).

Grand Plan Fund

Grand Plan are a group of creatives. They award £1,000 grants to creative people of colour based in the UK who want to make a new cultural project happen. It can be anything from: poetry, paintings, fashion, zines, music, food, flowers, photographs to workshops or events — whatever you want. Deadline 7 August 2024 (6pm).

Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust – registration deadline

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) is a Quaker trust which seeks to transform the world by supporting people who address the root causes of conflict and injustice. The Peace and Security grants programme funding priorities are: Challenging militarism, Scrutiny of counter-terrorism measures in the context of human rights and peacebuilding, Building support for alternative approaches to defence and security, and Responding to dual harms of COVID-19 and systemic racism. The next deadline for applications for the Peace and Security programme will be August 21, 2024. The deadline for registering for applications on their website is August 7, 2024.

NIHE: Sustaining Tenancies Funding Programme

The Sustaining Tenancies Grant Funding Programme is open to constituted groups within the community, voluntary and charitable sector operating in Northern Ireland supporting projects and activities that promote the welfare and comfort of Housing Executive tenants including the provision of objects/services which may help them to sustain/manage a tenancy successfully. The Programme are seeking expressions of interest for projects lasting up to 36 months, requiring funding between £5,000 and £100,000 over the full lifetime of the project. EOI deadline is 8 August 2024 (4pm).

King Charles III Charitable Fund: Small Grants

The King Charles III Charitable Fund Small Grants Programme awards small grants of up to £5,000 per year to approximately 100 community based organisations each year. The small grants programme is now open applications for projects / activities across their education and heritage and conservation funding themes. The application window will close at 12 noon on the 14 August 2024.

ESB: Hunters Hill Wind Farm Community Fund

Managed by Omagh Forum, Hunters Hill Wind Farm Community Fund was established by ESB to help the communities neighbouring the wind farm to become more sustainable through the support of positive local initiatives and activities. It seeks to address current and emerging issues, needs and opportunities within communities, enriching lives and creating brighter possibilities for local residents. Typically, the award value is between £500 and £5000. Applicants must be within a 7.5km radius of Hunters Hill Wind Farm, Fintona, County Tyrone. Deadline 23 August 2024 (noon).
