This Week's Funding News w/c 6th June 2016

OneFamily Foundation: Community Awards

The OneFamily Foundation helps fund community projects chosen by their customers. OneFamily customers simply nominate their favourite local community project for a Community Award of up to £5,000 or up to £25,000.  Approved projects are then entered into a public online vote, which determines the winners.  Projects will therefore need to campaign and raise awareness of their nomination in the Community Awards to gain the most votes!  Whether you have a seed of an idea and the support to get it off the ground, or have an existing project that needs a bit of a financial boost, you just need to tell them about your plans, and how much you need – and you could make a real difference to your local community.  The scheme has funded projects such as the renovation of school playgrounds and sports clubs, sensory gardens and respite centres for children with disabilities.

John Hewitt Society: Summer School Bursary Scheme

The Summer School bursary scheme is an assisted community ticketing scheme and plays an important aspect of the Society’s outreach programme.  A bursary offers financial support to those who otherwise would not be able to attend the Summer School.  The scheme attracts a varied demographic: third-level students, at-home parents, professionals, retired/60+, etc.  Full bursaries include accommodation for five nights, breakfast and ticket entry to all events. The Society can also offer discretionary half-bursaries which cover the entrance to all Summer School events for those who may have personal circumstances that do not permit them to spend evenings away from home, such as carers or dependants. Accommodation is not provided for half bursaries. Previous bursary students have gone on to become published writers, lead workshops, host live author events, be invited to read at poetry and writing festivals, and work in the literary sector.
