New or Updated Funding Initiatives

Groundwork NI: Alpha Programme

The Alpha Programme, administered by Groundwork NI, distributes Landfill Tax Credits generated from the Mullaghglass Landfill site just outside Lisburn for projects making a positive impact at ground level, either developing facilities for community use or encouraging bio-diversity and environmental improvements.  Changes made in 2017 allow applications for projects within a 15 rather than 10-mile radius of Mullaghglass Landfill site and a Small Grants programme has been added for grants between £3k to £10k.  This is in addition to the Main Grants programme providing grants from (£10k to £50k.

NEW!! Trusthouse Charitable Foundation: Supporting Older People in NI Grants

This scheme is a one-off, NI-specific grants programme from UK-wide funder Trusthouse Charitable Foundation.  A £110,000 fund will offer grants of £1,000 to £12,000 to projects supporting older people, which are located in areas of socio-economic deprivation solely in Northern Ireland.  They have a preference for work which helps people with dementia, but are open to any older people’s project which will improve the quality of life and wellbeing of older people, including addressing issues of loneliness and isolation.

John Moores Foundation

John Moores Foundation focuses on projects based in Merseyside and NI enabling people who are marginalised, as a result of social, educational, physical, economic, cultural, geographical or other disadvantage, to improve their social conditions and quality of life.  Priority is given to small, grass-roots and volunteer driven organisations and new rather than long-established groups and which find it more than usually difficult to raise money.  They support projects which break down barriers, encourage co-operation and joint working between different community and voluntary groups and across local boundaries.
