New or Updated Funding Initiatives

NEWS! Halifax Foundation for NI

In 2019 Halifax consulted with the sector and launched its new strategy  for   2020 – 2023,   ‘A   Vision   for   the   Future’.  Grant  programmes  have  been  streamlined  to  ensure  charities  can   spend   more   time   delivering   their   essential   work,   rather   than   completing   lengthy application forms.   In addition, from January 2020 the following grants will be available -

Small Community Grants

  • Up to £2,500/12 month grant/Rolling programme
  • Maximum 4 month turnaround for decision
  • Funding to improve the lives of those who are disadvantaged and/or disabled
  • Aimed at charities with an income of under £1M
  • Evaluated after 12 months

Medium Community Grants

  • £2,500 - £10,000/12 month grant/Rolling programme
  • Maximum 4 month turnaround for decision
  • Funding to improve the lives of those who are disadvantaged and/or disabled
  • Aimed at charities with an income of under £1M
  • Evaluated after 12 months

Long Term Community Grants

  • Up to £50,000/Over 3 years/Programme opening in January, closing in February each year
  • ‘Grants Plus’ approach
  • Funding to improve the lives of those who are disadvantaged and/or disabled
  • Aimed at charities with an income of under £1M
  • Monitored annually

NB All grant programmes will consider core costs, salaries, programme costs, activities/trips and equipment, volunteer expenses, training, transport and disabled access (this list is not exhaustive).

Special Initiatives Programme

  • Aimed at supporting the Third Sector
  • Strategic in nature/NI Wide potential
  • Up to £20,000/2 years

Hedley Foundation

Supports small to medium sized charities which work with young people.  Most grants are of a capital or one-off nature, but the Trustees sometimes agree to help fund the introduction of new and innovative projects with a series of up to 3 annual grants.  Few grants exceed £5,000 and most go to charities where they can make an impact.

D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust

Funds UK registered charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement.  At present, the Trust makes grants which are usually in the range £500 - £5,000 and most are single grants over a one-year period.

The National Lottery Community Fund: Awards for All Northern Ireland

Grant of £300 to £10,000 for projects to improve communities and the lives of people most in need by bringing them together to enjoy charitable, community, educational, environmental and health-related activities. NB They have changed the way they look at sports, arts and heritage projects and will consider these if the main aim is to strengthen your community. (In October 2019 they moved to an online application form and internal changes mean decisions may take up to 18 weeks.)

Les Mills Fund for Children

Grants of up to £1000 for registered charities and accountable non-profit organisations working to improve the education and physical and emotional wellbeing of children aged 0-16 in the areas of Poverty, Physical & Mental Health Problems, Health & Wellbeing or Living With Disability

Closing Date (5pm) 18 Nov 2019

ESB: Wind Farm Community Fund

Administered by Groundwork NI, the fund provides grants of around £3,000 to £6,000 for community projects addressing current and emerging local issues, needs and opportunities, while developing and build upon existing initiatives.  Projects must be within 7-10km (different for each wind farm) of the following wind farms – Crockdun, Crockagarran, Carrickatane, Curryfree or Eglish.

Belfast City Council: Core Multi-Annual Grants Programme

There are currently two strands of multiannual grants available, for arts and heritage organisations with a year-round programme of activity (Anchor & Enable) and Festivals and events with an audience of more than 10,000 (Imagine & Activate).
