New or Updated Funding Initiatives

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

Medium-sized independent grantmaking foundation which makes approximately 150-200  grants totalling around £2.5 million a year to projects relating to rural issues and urban deprivation. Managed on a day-to-day basis by the Henry Smith Charity, although the two charities are entirely separate and you can apply to both organisations at the same time.

Arts Council NI: Musical Instruments for Bands

This programme is designed to increase the quality of music-making in the community by helping bands to replace worn-out instruments and purchase new instruments. Offers grants from £500 up to a maximum of £5,000.

Wellcome Trust: Public Engagement Fund

The Wellcome Trust  (which replaced the International Engagement Awards) provides funding for individuals and organisations to use creative approaches in engaging the public with health research. They fund activities, projects, creative spaces and capital investment.  Awards range from £25,000 to £3 million for up to three years.

NEW! Techies in Residence

The new Techies in Residence Programme brings together social challenges from charities and social enterprises with digital technology professionals to produce innovative digital products and services that have potential for deep social impact. Funded by Comic Relief, the scheme is administered by Community Foundation for NI.

Change Something Fund

The Change Something Fund has been established with support from Big Lottery Community Fund and Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC). The fund will provide young people aged 13 – 25 living in DCSDC area with an opportunity to take the lead in their communities throughout the district’s dedicated Year of Youth in 2019.  Small grants from £200 -£500 or larger grants from £501-£3,000.

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity

Marvellous Family Grants are for families facing financial hardship while caring for a child with a serious illness. They provide support to help families cope, from funding specialist equipment and creative therapies to hospital travel expenses.

ESB: Energy for Generations Fund

Each year the Fund awards €1 million in direct funding through a quarterly fund to charities working in the areas of suicide prevention, alleviation of homelessness and education access and support. (The Fund awards a further €1 million a year through support for staff volunteering, in-kind support and other CSR initiatives.) The majority of funding will go to registered charities.
