Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland: Community Grant Programme

The Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland's Community Grants Programme supports underfunded, grassroots charities that enable people, especially disabled and disadvantaged people, to play a fuller role in society. The programme is open to registered charities with an income of less than £1 million.   Grants are for one year only and the average grant is currently £3200.

Charity Bank in Northern Ireland (LOANS)

Based in Belfast, Charity Bank in Northern Ireland provides competitive, ethical loans for charities.  Its specialist knowledge and commitment to the sector means that it has been able to provide flexible loans to support more than 1,000 charities, community organisations and social enterprises across the UK. It provides loan funding from £50,000 up to £3.25 million, while larger loans can be arranged in partnership with other social lenders.

Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

The Award recognises the vital role played by the hundreds of thousands of 'unsung heroes' of the community and voluntary world and emphasises the importance of continuing recognition of their work. It is the MBE for volunteer groups and any group of 2 or more people doing volunteering work can be nominated for the award.

Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme

This scheme, administered by Topmark, gives grants that cover the VAT incurred in making repairs to listed buildings in use as places of worship. The scheme covers repairs to the fabric of the building, along with associated professional fees, plus repairs to turret clocks, pews, bells and pipe organs.  Funded up to £42m, the LPWS has paid out £151m since its inception and assisted over 13,000 buildings.

Heritage Lottery Fund: Kick the Dust

Kick the Dust is a £10 million programme for ambitious youth-focused projects that aim to transform how heritage organisations engage young people, i.e. 11 to 25. You can apply for a grant from £500,000 to £1 million as part of a consortium.   Note that there is just one opportunity to apply for Kick the Dust.

A B Charitable Trust (ABCT)

The A B Charitable Trust (ABCT) supports UK charities that defend human rights and promote respect for vulnerable individuals whatever their circumstances.  Its purpose is to support unpopular causes that champion human dignity, to be low-profile and to focus on small and medium-sized charities working close to the ground.

BBC Appeal Broadcasts

The BBC broadcasts charitable appeals as a public service in order to provide authoritative information and guidance about charities; raise money for good causes and encourage giving and; raise awareness about charities' work.  They hope to inspire charities to share stories with listeners and viewers.
