Fundraising Regulation for Northern Ireland

Fundraising self-regulation IS coming to both Northern Ireland and Scotland, having already firmly arrived in England and Wales.  The only question still up for debate is as to what FORM it should take.  NICVA will be running an event around this issue on 9th September – details to be determined.

In the meantime, for information on the background to this key issue and an overview of the options see NICVA’s latest article here

New & Updated Funding Initiatives

Allen Lane Foundation

The Allen Lane Foundation is a grant-making trust which was established in 1966 by Sir Allen Lane, who set up the publishing company Penguin Books. They fund small registered charities, voluntary groups, and charitable organisations across the UK. They are interested in funding charitable causes which they believe to be unpopular both in society, and with other funders.  They aim to help organsations to become sustainable, supporting running and core costs to enable them to have flexibility, security and longevity.  Over a typical year, they make around 150 grants, to a total value of between £750,000 and £800,000.

Irish World Grants Scheme

Irish World's new grant scheme promotes the work of local history and cultural groups in County Tyrone.  Specifically, it aims to provide small grants to assist the publication of materials within the ambit of local history and wider cultural studies that will be of interest to a local and also a wider audience. Individual grants will be up to £500 in 2016, with provision to review thereafter.  For 2016 the programme will be confined to County Tyrone, although this will be subject to review in subsequent years with the possibility of including County Fermanagh.

Big Lottery Fund: Celebrate Northern Ireland

Celebrate Northern Ireland is a small grants programme delivered and funded by the Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland.  Six out of ten people in a recent survey said they could not remember ever coming together to celebrate with their community. The Big Lottery Fund wants to help change this with their Celebrate programme.  They are offering grants of between £500 and £5,000  for groups to hold one off events or activities which celebrate their local community.  You could also celebrate something from your community’s history or a local hero. Or maybe it’s a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better. Celebrate gives people the chance to come together, whether that’s to mark something important to their community like The Queen’s 90th Birthday, commemorate a historic local event, or simply get to know their neighbours better. 225,000 is avialable for projects in Northern Ireland with applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis until all funds are awarded.
