Alliance Magazine is the critical voice of philanthropy worldwide. As a publication, they want to open and broaden the philanthropy conversation. That means taking active steps to include, welcome, and amplify previously excluded voices.
Consequently, they are willing to provide a one-off financial support for authors/co-authors or the organisation at which those writers are based to support and incentivise contributions from those who would otherwise face barriers to sharing their time and expertise.
What is the Inclusion Fund?
They know it’s not always easy, or financially viable, to contribute to the global philanthropy conversation when you’re working for frontline or grassroots organisations.
They also know it can be daunting and cumbersome submitting to an English language publication when you have a mother tongue other than English.
That’s why in 2024 they established the Alliance Inclusion Fund, a storytelling fund, to support and incentivise contributions from those who would otherwise face barriers to sharing their time and expertise.
What does the Inclusion Fund pay for?
This fund offers specific, one-off financial support for:
- Paying authors/co-authors for a commissioned article OR the organisations at which those writers are based.
- Authors who want to submit an article in their own language and who, if commissioned, would like Alliance to pay for and organise the translation of their piece for editing purposes and publication.
- Supporting Alliance to produce non-English language digital events and provide simultaneous interpretation for our audience.
This fund is also used to supply submission guidelines to authors in local languages on request.
Qualifying criteria
They will consider article pitches under the Inclusion Fund from applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Grassroots organisations with an annual budget of less than $250,000, who haven’t written for Alliance magazine before
- Organisations that identify strongly as having a vision and mission focused on advancing grassroots movements or causes
- Individual practitioners who predominantly write in a language other than English
