Wellcome Big Ideas - Large Arts Grants
Artworks inspired by science can stimulate debate and provide new ways of thinking about the social, cultural and ethical implications of science.
The Wellcome Trust Large Arts Awards will support imaginative and experimental arts projects that involve the creation of new artwork and bring together any art form and any area of biomedical science. Projects must have some biomedical input, either through a scientist taking on an advisory role or through direct collaboration with a scientist.
Through the scheme, grants of over £30 000 are awarded for projects lasting a maximum of three years. This funding can be used to fund full or part production costs for large-scale arts projects that aim to have significant impact on the public's engagement with biomedical science. We are also interested in supporting high-quality, multi-audience, multi-outcome projects.
Applicants must be based in the UK or the Republic of Ireland and the activity must take place in the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Applicants are usually affiliated to organisations, but can apply as individuals.
Applications are now open for these awards. The next deadline for preliminary applications is 8 January 2010.
