Peace III Expressions of Interest 1.1

Fri, 22/06/2007 - 10:57 | Stephen Gray

The areas within this priority are set out in the draft Operational Programme. Although the OP is subject to change it is considered reasonable to proceed on the basis of the draft OP at this time.

This objective aims to challenge attitudes towards sectarianism and racism and to support conflict resolution and mediation at the local community level. The Priority aims to establish meaningful cross-community and cross-border initiatives that will improve trust and tolerance, and reduce levels of sectarianism and racism. This Priority will primarily be delivered through Action Plans co-ordinated by partnership arrangements operating at the local level. The Local Authority acting as lead partner will commence the advancement of these Action Plans in the coming weeks.

An opportunity exists to promote activities on a regional level where some dimensions of building positive relationships may be best addressed. In addition to meeting the Programme and Priority objectives, the successful regional projects will:

  • Focus on reconciliation;
  • Act as a catalyst for reducing levels of sectarianism and racism;
  • Be strategic in focus and implemented on a regional basis across the whole eligible region, including Northern Ireland and the Border region;
  • Focus on areas and groups that have been affected by the conflict;
  • Demonstrate compatibility and complementarity to activities delivered at the local level;
  • Offer due regard to the five cross cutting themes, notably, cross border co-operation, equality of opportunity, sustainable development, impact on poverty and partnership.

The call for expressions of interest is intended to lead to an application for project funding from the PEACE III programme. The identification of a project does not guarantee that funding will be approved for the substantive project . It is intended that a regional workshop will be hosted to advance work on the applications of the projects identified.

In order to be considered for attendance at the workshop, expressions of interest should be submitted by 2nd July 2007.
