European Parliament awareness funding

Thu, 13/09/2007 - 17:05 | Stephen Gray

The aim of this call for proposals from the Directorate General for Information of the European Parliament is to identify projects and fund events in particular which deal with cultural diversity as well as more general events with an EU focus.

2008 will be the 50th anniversary of the first sitting of the European Parliamentary Assembly. Additionally, 2008 has been declared the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue in support of cultural and linguistic diversity and promoting solidarity.

The key issues addressed by this funding programme are awareness-raising; relevant, accurate and unbiased information; specifically relating to the European Parliament; and promoting and developing understanding of our cultural diversity.

The European Parliament has Information Offices in each Member-State capital city as well as five satellite offices, these offices will be closely involved with the projects which are in receipt of a grant from DG Information, and will follow the development of the projects. Only projects being held in one or more of the Member-States of the European Union may be considered under this funding programme.

The four themes for 2008

1) Co-financing informative and awareness-raising Television programmes with the central theme of the 50th anniversary of the European Parliamentary Assembly.

2) Support to public debates and conferences whose main theme will be either:

  • The 50th anniversary of the European Parliamentary Assembly and the role and functioning of the European Parliament, and/or
  • Projects which enhance understanding of our cultural diversity, which increase awareness of different cultures and which promote dialogue, with the objective of strengthening a European identity/citizenship which respects and celebrates this diversity.

3) Support to large-scale events, including fairs and exhibitions with either

  • The specific aim of providing information about the role, processes and functioning of the European Parliament, and/or
  • Which encompass and promote the theme of Intercultural Dialogue.

4) Co-financing innovative websites and other internet-based initiatives aimed at generating a European public political space

Only proposals for projects which are due to start during the course of 2008 will be considered. Additionally DG Information will only consider projects which start at the earliest on 1/1/2008 and which will be completed at the latest by 30/4/2009.

Applications are open to anyone from the 25 EU member states. The overall budget available this year is €5 million. Projects will receive up to 50% of their costs, ranging from a minimum grant of €20,000 and a maximum €300,000.

The closing date for applications is 1 October 2007
