Derry Woman of the Year - Nominations Sought
Derry City Council is calling for nominations for this year's Women of the Year awards, which are scheduled to take place in the Everglades Hotel on March 06th 2009.
Organised by Council's Women's Development section, the event is set to celebrate women in the Derry City Council area and acknowledge the contribution they have made throughout the city's communities over the past year.
Joanna Boyd, the Council's Women Officer explained that last year's inaugural event was a huge success. She explained:
"The awards are aimed at acknowledging the pivotal role women play in shaping our society. With eleven categories every effort has been made to ensure that all possible opportunities for recognition have been identified."
"I hope that members of the public take the opportunity to use these awards to recognise someone they feel has made an invaluable contribution to the city.
This year's awards ceremony features awards in the following categories:
- Contribution to Women's Community Development
- Contribution to Rural Women's Development
- Contribution to Community Relations
- Contribution to Health
- Contribution to Sport or Dance
- Contribution to Prevent Abuse against Women
- Contribution to Arts
- Contribution to Formal/Informal Education
- Contribution to the Older People
- Contribution to Youth
- Contribution to Childcare or Caring
- Overall Winner - Women of the Year 2009
Nomination forms are currently available by contacting the Women's Officer at Derry City Council - tel: (028) 71375151 or are downloadable from www.derrycity.gov.uk/woman
The closing date for entries is noon, Friday 6 February 2008 and all entries must be sent to the Women's Officer, Derry City Council, Development Department, 98 Strand Road, Derry, BT48 7NN. Nominations should be inside sealed envelopes labelled "Women of the Year Award 2008".
Tickets for the event are priced at £15, which includes dinner and entertainment, and are available by contacting Joanna Boyd at Derry City Council (Tel: (028) 71365151).
