Free Online Giving with Charity Choice

Charity Choice opened its free online donations facility to Northern Ireland Charities following a review in 2009. Charity Choice now offers a totally free online donation service which is now available again to all UK registered charities. 

Charity Choice suspended the scheme to Northern ireland charities over concerns that it could not check the registration details of applicants due to the absence of a charity commission. NICVA asked Charity Choice to review the decision and in correspondence with Charity Choice, has learnt of the new procedure for Northern Ireland charities to register on the scheme. Whether the reopening of the scheme has anything to do with NICVA or not it is still a very welcome development. Charity Choice is the only 100% free online donation service provider.

This service has been set up with the help of The Co-Operative Bank Plc. to provide your charity with a secure, quick, easy and most cost effective way of receiving donations direct to your bank.

The process for NI Charities to register. 

• Go online and complete the registration form.
• Charity Choice add your organisation to their database and post out an authorisation letter.
• Send this letter back to Charity Choice with a copy of your tax exemption certificate or confirmation from the HM Revenue and Customs to your charity of your charity repayment reference - only if you have this information from the HMRC will Charity Choice proceed with your registration.

Charity Choice will review each application on a case by case basis.
